芬蘭教育包括九年制義務教育，7歲入學，高中分普通中學或職業學校，均為3年，高等教育機構分大學與學院，高中或高職畢業通過會考，19歲進大專院校。每年在芬蘭約有225，000學生就讀32所理工院校，以及10所綜合大學(其中有3所經濟與商業管理院校、3所科技大學和4所文科大學)。 大學提供學士、碩士、執業證書、博士四級學位；工學院提供學士、碩士兩級學位。工學院畢業后可進入大學完成更高級的學位。芬蘭的大學教育極為發達，國民中有65%以上接受過高等教育，在年輕人當中其比例更高。申請本科的學生一般要求通過學校的面試，或者要出示語言成績。但對于中國學生來說芬蘭的本科入學不需要提供高考成績，只需要會考成績和高中畢業，這對于高考中由于發揮不穩定而沒有取得理想成績的同學是個很大的福音。芬蘭三年可修完學士學位，碩士為2年，碩士再修博士約需四年左右，均需提交論文。
